For those of us who are interested in how the food we eat got to our tables, this is a thoughtful film, which asks some very uncomfortable questions about issues such as the politics of food production and distribution, genetically modified foods, famines, water shortages, and food aid programs. Directed by Yves Billy and Richard Prost, the film travels throughout Africa, China, Latin America and the U.S., tracing the origins of the global food crisis.

The file that we call “Design – Nature” is a popular one among Picture Collection users. Here is where we collect images that highlight patterns and abstract form in natural objects, plants and landscapes. Here is a selection of small croppings from some of the images. For hundreds more samples, you’ll have to visit the Picture Collection.

Sometimes the Library’s loss is the Picture Collection’s gain. A withdrawn/damaged book of work by Odd Nerdrum came to the Picture Collection to be clipped, and we were able to add many new samples of this Norwegian figurative painter’s work to our files.
Also added recently is a large collection of postcards of London Transport posters. See Advertising – Posters – London Transport.
